If you have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, you are eligible to participate in a group program subsidised by Medicare. The program is designed to help you manage your diabetes and any other conditions or injuries you may have. The end goal is to help you build a healthy exercise routine and improve your overall health and fitness.
Our classes are run by our Accredited Exercise Physiologists who are experts at prescribing exercises specific to your current health and Type 2 Diabetes. The classes are designed to be fun and enjoyable tailored to your health status. We recommend attending once or twice a week for optimal result physically and improvements in blood sugar levels.
Why?
As you know, exercise paired with correct diet is extremely beneficial to management of Type 2 Diabetes. But it is never fun when you need to do exercise by yourself. Through the Type 2 diabetes management program, we aim to perform exercise as a group in a team environment.

What to expect?
Initial assessment:
During the first appointment, you will be taken through a thorough initial assessment so we can have a good understanding of your current health, physical status, exercise history and determine your goals. We will help you develop a program to suit your needs along with a discussion of additional methods to help manage your diabetes.
Group classes:
After your initial assessment, it will then be followed by 8x60mins group classes. Group classes will involve helping you understand more about diabetes, along with guided exercise classes taking you through performing exercise safely. Exercise programs will be tailored to your current physical status and health, taking into account of your medical conditions. Groups will have a maximum of 10 participants to allow our Accredited Exercise Physiologists to keep a good eye on you and make sure you are participating in the exercises safely. The end goal is to leave you with the knowledge to better manage your diabetes.
What should I wear/bring?
Wear comfortable clothing, sneakers/joggers. You will be doing some movements and exercising, so it is important for you to feel comfortable.
Make sure you bring your doctors referral for the Type 2 Diabetes Management Program (if claiming through medicare), water bottle and towel.
How to take part?
To be eligible, you must have been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. Your GP will then be able to complete the Type 2 diabetes group referral form in addition to your management plan (GPMP). Referrals should be brought in with you to your appointment or emailed/faxed to us by the GP.
*Note: these are in addition to the 5x Medicare subsidised CDMP appointments
You are also welcome to join the group class privately without a GP referral. All you need to do is to contact us and schedule in your initial assessment. These sessions may be subsidised by your private health fund.
Ongoing Exercises:
Participants of this program are all welcomed to continue their exercising journey with us in their classes after the end of the 8 weeks.
